Dear Club Member
Welcome to your October news.
The Annual Exhibition was quietly successful, which given the difficult times
we are living through is remarkable. Thank you to all members who contributed
in any way.
There were 1,057 visitors, up on last year, which was lovely to see.
We had 199 paintings and ceramics to sell, which was down on previous years,
meaning entry fees were also down. However, we sold 39 paintings and 9 ceramic pieces and our sales were of a similar value to last year. We again managed to make a small profit. We only aim to cover our costs, so this was a very
Thank you to all who sent in works to be displayed. It can be daunting exhibiting for the first time, but at least three new members made a sale this year at
the first attempt, which is so rewarding and encouraging. Why not have a go
next year, there’s plenty of time to prepare!
Many visitors were very complimentary on the diversity of subjects and styles,
and the high standard of work. Well done to all who took part.
Donations totalled £222, half of which was given to the Memorial Hall as a donation to support this fabulous charitable venue.
New members – I’m thrilled to say that we gained 6 new members during the
exhibition, and several more in the weeks leading up to it. Welcome to you all.
You can keep up to date by checking the website or social media. All our club
policies can be found on the site too, for those who are interested. If anyone
would like a paper copy of these documents, let me know and I’ll send you one.
If you have any queries or suggestions, don’t hesitate to phone or email the
committee using the details below.
Programme of events – To remind us all of what’s coming up, please see the events calendar on the website.
Changes to the Committee- Some changes have happened to the
committee too throughout this extraordinary year, so to keep you up to date a
new committee list is also included. We say goodbye to Krys Hilton, who has
helped the committee this last year with the newsletters. Thanks, Krys, and
good luck in the future.
Friday Practical sessions – We are happy to run these on the 4th Friday afternoon of the month, but please let Lesley know each time if you are coming, as we’ve had very low numbers recently. We need at least 6 With a fee of £4 per
session, to cover the cost of room hire. The next session is planned for the 22nd of October.
OCTOBER WORKSHOP with Jane Austin – ‘Watercolour Landscapes’ is on
Saturday, 16th October is nearly full – only 2 spaces left! Please book
ASAP. The £10 deposit can be paid via BACS or a cheque to Sue Broughton.
The balance- £25 – is payable on the day.
Local Interest – The Fylingdales Group of Artists are holding their 89th Annual Exhibition at the Pannett Art Gallery, Whitby from September 28th to November 21st www.pannettartgallery.org. Do go along and support if you can, some of our members are exhibiting there and it would make a great day out.
Demonstration Protocol – There will be no need to book a seat at demos for the foreseeable future, and numbers will not be limited (the Whistler Hall has a large capacity). However, we will still be encouraging mask-wearing when moving about and chatting to other members, and seats will be distanced and ventilation optimised. No refreshments are planned yet, but please feel free to bring your own.
We really hope that one day we’ll get back to operating as normal, but in the meantime, we must still be vigilant.
