Newsletter 9/20 Oct 2020

Dear Club Member,

We hope you are all keeping safe and well and enjoying painting/drawing.

A big thank you to all those who helped us in any way with the annual exhibition!

Lesley, Sue and the exhibition team all worked very hard to deal with the regulations and make it a safe and successful event, which yielded a profit for the club. We found that a good proportion of members were pleased to be submitting their work and many visitors to the area were delighted to find the exhibition open. There was an increase in entries of mounted but unframed originals and these were popular with purchasers. 44 paintings and 10 ceramics were sold, as well as a considerable number of cards. Many visitors commented on the high standard of work, so we look forward to having more of your beautiful art works on sale for the 2021 exhibition.

Unfortunately the October 1st Demonstration and November 12th Mini Workshop are both cancelled for 2020. We hope to run both events in 2021.

Outdoor Painting Days are now over. Where would you like to go in 2021? Please let us know via the club email.

Club Calendar The voting results are available to view on the web site, but the production of the calendar has been postponed until next year.

Wednesday evening practical sessions will start again on 21st October, 7pm in the Mill Suite, spaces for 6 only. Email Lynette (please ask!) for more information.

Photos of your paintings are needed for the website! Please send some photos of your more recent work to us at the club email. These will be displayed in the gallery.

Your Club Needs You! Many members have contacted us to let us know how much they appreciate the newsletters, challenges, calendar competition and the organisation of the few events permitted this year. This has all happened through the loyalty and efforts of a few committee members, most of whom have been in place for a decade or more.

Can you contact would-be demonstrators, help with the exhibition, set up the video camera for demonstrations, or organise outdoor painting days? Please email us to let us know what you may be able to do to help.

Some of you may be interested to know that Sky Portrait Artist of the year starts again onWednesday 14th October. It is now available on Freeview, and freesat. Portrait Artist of the week also starts on Sunday 18th October, but you need a Facebook link for that, although highlights will be broadcast on the main channel also.

Club Logo Challenge closing date is 30th November We would like you to design a new “logo” for the club! It needs to be small, have an arty theme, and does not need any text. It needs to look good in both colour and black and white. We look forward to seeing your ideas as photos to the club email, please. Thanks to those who have contributed so far.

The October Challenge is to paint something on the theme of ‘Reflections in Shiny Surfaces’ which could be metal, glass or water. The attached photo may be useful.

Best Wishes from your VOPAC committee.
