May 2024 Newsletter

Dear members

April saw the start of our outdoor painting days. The first, at Pickering train station on 24th April was somewhat blighted by the unseasonable weather but a small group of us did manage to meet up and be inspired by the station, trains and surrounding landscape. The next outdoor painting day will be on Tuesday 7th May at the pretty village of Sinnington. We will meet by the bridge at 10am. The village hall has been booked from 10am to 2pm for toilets and tea/coffee will be available but you will need to bring your own sandwiches. As mentioned in the last newsletter; help will be on hand to encourage less confident members to get involved. Yet another outdoor painting day will take place on 24th May at Pickering Church; as always meet around 10am.

Our next demonstration is on Thursday 9th May at the Memorial Hall, Pickering. We will be welcoming back Belinda Hazlerigg who led a very successful workshop last October. Those who attended Belinda’s workshop really enjoyed learning and applying new techniques and we produced some lovely atmospheric landscapes in acrylic. Belinda is an experienced teacher and demonstrator so it promises to be a great evening; see https://www.belindahazlerigg.com for examples of Belinda’s work,

Those who could not make the April demonstration missed a real treat. Nearly 40 people attended the watercolour demonstration by Stephen Coates who donated his picture to the club for fundraising. It was a wonderful evening; we are very fortunate to have such experienced artists willing to come to our club to demonstrate their work. If you could not attend there will be another opportunity; Stephen has agreed to run a workshop for us in October 2025.
Also just to note that the problems that people previously experienced hearing the demonstrator appear to have been overcome.

As raised in the March newsletter, we have organised an additional day workshop on figure drawing on 6th July 2024 with York based artist Phil Reynolds.  Phil will be accompanied by a life model for the day. There is only one place left on this workshop so let us know as soon as possible if you would like to take part.

The next practical evening will be at 7pm on 15th May in the Memorial Hall. Do join if you can for a lovely relaxing time with other members.  The colours theme will continue this month with blue and ?yellow being the chosen topic, but as always you can bring your own work to the session.

Finally, Sue Slack, well-known local artist will be running a workshop on acrylic landscapes at Lockton village hall on Saturday 11th May. Email Sue at sueslackartist@gmail.com or contact her on 07393867245 if you are interested.

Look forward to seeing you soon
