March 2024 Newsletter

Dear members

We hope that you enjoyed our February demonstration of collage techniques with Denise Doggett. The great turnout despite the snow that day confirmed interest in collage among members, which we will bear in mind when planning our future events. For those who have not renewed their membership, unfortunately this will be the last newsletter that you receive from us.

Our watercolour workshop “watercolour made easy’ on 2nd March with Charles Evans is now fully subscribed – those taking part can look forward to a very stimulating and interesting day.

The next demonstration for all members on 14th March in the Memorial Hall, Pickering is on use of pastels to create a woodland scene to be led by local Mary Wells. You can view a range of Mary’s inspiring works at https://driffieldartclub.co.uk/mary-wells/

Spring is fast approaching even though it does not always feel like it!  Our programme of outdoor painting days which commence in April will be sent to members in early March.

Feedback following our first event of the year in January on figure drawing has led to us arranging an additional day workshop on life drawing on 6th of July with York based artist Phil Reynolds.  Phil will be accompanied by a life model for the day.  The special requirements for this workshop mean that numbers must be capped at 12 and the costs of the model and Phil’s time means that the cost for participants has to be £50 which is still highly competitive for such a workshop.  Do let us know as soon as possible if you are interested and we can provide you with further details. Phil’s extensive portfolio can be accessed at https://philreynoldsfineart.co.uk/

Another event that is sure to be of interest to members is being convened on March 28th, 6pm to 9pm in the Memorial Hall, Pickering. New member Sarah Green is holding an acrylic paint night on the subject of Van Gogh’s sunflowers. Materials will be available and tuition provided. There will be coffee and cake or participants can choose to bring their own booze. So something for everyone!  The cost is £30 and booking is essential. Contact Sarah direct on 0797334995 if you would like to take part.

Finally, our next practical evening will be on the 20th March in the Memorial Hall. The topic is Easter (such as spring flowers, chicks, easter eggs) but of as always you can do pursue your own work. Do consider joining us for a relaxed companionable evening of art.

Look forward to seeing you soon.
