Newsletter June 2020

In News, Newsletters by Chris Pearson

Dear Club Member,

We hope you are all keeping safe and well. Last month’s Scotney Castle photo was certainly a challenge, but we trust that those who have sent us photos of their efforts enjoyed tackling it! The pictures will be on the web site soon.

The June Challenge is to paint something from your garden or from the photo above (a committee member’s, so no copyright issues).

Just have a go at and please send us a jpeg photo of your efforts to info@mail.pickeringartclub.co.uk.

Thank you to the members who have already submitted paintings of local subjects for the Club Calendar Competition, the closing date for which is Thursday 11th June. After this, you’ll be able to view all the entries on the web site.

Don’t forget there are videos and free tuition available online to help keep you going artistically. These can be accessed via the web sites of individual professional artists, including John Harrison and Paul Dene Marlor, who have both visited us in the past. You tube and SAA also have videos available and there is a site called Drawing Together Live for those who enjoy life drawing. A number of museums are releasing virtual exhibitions while they are closed and there are also free art appreciation courses available, such as those by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Sky Arts are running portrait painting sessions via Facebook on Sunday mornings, with celebrity sitters. This is followed by a very interesting results programme on Sky Arts the following Friday at 8pm, showing the work of previous ‘Portrait Artist of the Year’ winners and top tips from the judges.

Keep busy and keep painting. It would be great to have even more of your amazing work to celebrate at the exhibition in September which we are hoping to run with suitable precautions.

Take care and Best Wishes from your VOPAC committee.
