February 2024 Newsletter

Hello members
Thank you for registering for another year of demonstrations, workshops, and outdoor painting days throughout 2024 with Vale of Pickering Art Club. We really appreciate your ongoing support. Do spread the word to others who may be interested so that we can continue to grow and thrive.

The feedback following our first event of the year in January on figure drawing was universally positive. Thanks to members of Thornton-le-Dale Ukuleles for modelling for us. Given the success of this evening, we are considering introducing further opportunities for life drawing during the year.

Our next demonstration on 8th February in the Memorial Hall is on mixed media, print collage techniques and will be presented by Denise Doggett. Denise’s beautiful work has been shown at Ryedale Open studios  This is a new venture for the Art Club and we look forward to an interesting and inspiring evening.

Don’t forget about our first workshop of the year on Saturday 2nd March from 10am to around 4pm. Charles Evans will run a workshop entitled ‘watercolour made easy”. Charles is a highly regarded artist; you can read about him and view his work at
There are a very few places left so do contact us as soon as possible if you wish to attend.

Our next practical evening will be on the 21st of February in the Memorial Hall. The topic is ‘shoes’ but of as always you can do your own work instead. Do consider joining us for a relaxed companionable evening of art.

As some members will be aware, we have a couple of other practical groups in the area. The Pickering Tuesday art group meets every week, 10am to 3pm from Autumn to late Spring in Pickering Memorial Hall. This is a great opportunity for people of all abilities to pursue their own artistic interests in a friendly, relaxed environment. There is no formal tuition but lots of informal learning always takes place between participants. Spaces are currently available so for more information about this group, do contact Diana Smith at or alternatively drop in to meet us if you are in the area on Tuesday.
Another group called Busy Brushes takes place Monday afternoons from 1.30 to 3.30 throughout the year. Help is available at this group but spaces are currently limited. Do contact Sue Broughton if you are interested at

Look forward to seeing you soon.
