Newsletter August 2020

In News, Newsletters by Sue Broughton

Dear Club Member,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. We are pleased to announce that our new website is up and running, thanks to Chris, Sue and Lesley. The same address will take you to it so do have a look. Suggestions for content are always welcome.

We are pleased to say that the Annual Exhibition will go ahead in September as we had hoped. The committee took into account all views expressed by members, the majority of whom were in favour, and have decided to hold the exhibition with appropriate precautions regarding Coronavirus. The Memorial Hall Trustees are very pleased too and we have their backing along with a raft of new rules and the provision of sanitising stations, daily cleaning and moral support.

One major change will be handing in day, now on the Friday 4th September, as there will be no Preview Evening. Exhibitors will be given an agreed time slot to bring in artwork, so we avoid congestion at the Hall entrance. Details will be included in your Exhibition Mailing. As time is short we will be sending these by email for the most part (except to those members who have stated they do not want to take part, or who usually receive postal mailings). If anyone would like to take part but cannot print etc, please give us a ring or email and we’ll pop yours in the post too.

Greetings Cards and mounted work are very welcome, but will be displayed on boards or the wall to reduce the transmission risk that browsers would create. See your Mailing for details, or give Lesley a call if you need clarification. As ever, volunteers for stewarding are much needed.

Outdoor Painting Days – We will be having our first attempt this year at Hutton-le-Hole on Thursday 13th August. The Moors Authority toilets are open, and some cafes may have take away provision. However we strongly recommend you bring your own refreshments just in case. We will meet (loosely!) in the NYM car park at 10am. Sadly we do not encourage car sharing as this is still against Government Advice. Do come along if you possibly can – it will be great to see some familiar faces. For new members, these are very informal, enjoyable days. Bring your own materials, refreshments and a stool and have a go at painting en plein air. Don’t worry, very few of us produce anything sensible, but it is fun and we do learn a lot. The OPD to Rievaulx will not go ahead as timed tickets need to be booked and they are not encouraging groups. We will keep you posted if any further events become possible.

Calendar Results Thank you so much to all who took part and those who voted. The winning pictures are available to see through a link on the website. We hope to have the calendars printed in time for the exhibition so you can all see the finished article.

August Challenge This month we have a topic to paint, rather than a photo: A portrait of your pet or favourite animal. We will display your images on the website if you would like to share them with us.

Take care and Best Wishes from your VOPAC committee.
