March 2024 Newsletter

Dear members
We are all looking forward to lighter nights and better weather.

April sees the start of our outdoor painting days.  The first will be held at Pickering train station on 24th April – we will meet together at 10am on the station platform. Everyone will have received the list of outdoor painting days for this Spring/ Summer. One of our aims this year is to encourage more of the membership to feel sufficiently confident to take part, and so more experienced members have committed to assisting those of us who are newer to painting outdoors so do consider giving it a go.
Our next demonstration is on Thursday 11th April at Pickering Memorial Hall, Pickering. It will be led by Stephen Coates who will demonstrate the skies in Watercolour.  We are very fortunate to have engaged Sheffield based Stephen who has written extensively about watercolour art in addition to working as an artist and teaching others. Visit for a flavour of his wide-ranging portfolio.
We understand that people enjoyed the March demonstration by Mary Wells. However,  some members experienced problems with being able to hear Mary while she was demonstrating. We have taken this on board and are working to identify solutions so that everyone is able to fully benefit from our events in the future.
Mary has let us know about her next workshop, entitled “Oil Painting in one go”. It takes place on Saturday 13th April at 10.00 am until 3.30 pm at Little Weighton Village Hall. Cost £60. Contact us on the email below if you want an application form. Mary also plans Watercolour and Pastel workshops in May and June, details to come.
As raised in the March newsletter, we have organised an additional day workshop on life drawing on 6th July with York based artist Phil Reynolds.  Phil will be accompanied by a life model for the day. This workshop is filling up quickly so do let us know as soon as possible if you would like to take part. The cost is £50 per person, to be paid in full ahead of the event.
Our next practical evening will be on the 20th March in the Memorial Hall. The topic is the colours red and green to stimulate your creativity.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
