Dear Club Member,

Newsletter 08/22 August 2022

Firstly, many congratulations to club member, Derek Thrippleton, who has won a top prize in the National SAA wildlife competition. You may have seen his beautiful elephant at the recent Rotary Art Exhibition. This will be in this weeks Gazette and Herald. Great Stuff.

Then, welcome to August, never a good month for the weather. However, our hardy painters in the rain of Thornton le Dale will no doubt enjoy the challenges that this month offers!

The next outdoor painting day is at Yorkshire Lavender, Terrington on Tuesday 9th August, meet at 10.00 am. This is a stunning place to paint and worth the small charge. You also have the last opportunity to paint outdoors at Goathland on Monday 22nd August, meet in the car park 10.00 am. Come and have a go, it is great fun. Get in touch if a lift is required.

Our next Thursday club night takes place on Thursday 11th August at 7pm in the Mill Suite.
This night is aimed at members who are beginners, and/or those who have never felt confident about entering the exhibition. Get advice from more experienced members about presentation, framing reasonably and pricing. Ask any question you like. Or, just come in for a chat about your work.
We are thinking of having a section of the exhibition dedicated to newer members. Please let us know if you find this idea attractive.
We are also planning to hold “meet the artist events” on the first Saturday, Sunday and Monday, where artists can be available to discuss their work and ideas with the public. Please let us know if this interests you.
This is a reminder that notification of your exhibition entries needs to be in by the 19th August.

Robert Dutton’s recent demonstration was a foretaste for our October workshop, Saturday 22nd, There are still a few places left. The workshop will be mixed media and if you are worried you may not have the right materials, the club has some supplies which you may find useful.
The subsidized cost is £35, with a £10 deposit, when you can, please.

The 3rd Wednesday group will be meeting on 17th August at 7pm in the Mill Suite. The subject is “blue and yellow”. You can of course work on your own project.

The club has for sale the Zettle card reader, cost in 2018 = £34.80, and also the Acer Iconia tablet that runs the Zettle App., cost in 2018 = £84.99.
